Enrico Letta (Pisa, 20 August 1966) is an Italian politician.
A graduate in political science (political-international) at the University of Pisa, he obtained a specialization in European Community Law at the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna in Pisa.
He was president of the Young European Democrats (1991-1995), Secretary General of the Euro Committee of the Treasury (1996-1997), deputy secretary of the National Italian Popular Party (1997-1998), Minister for Community Policy (1998-1999), Minister of Industry (1999-2001), head of the national economy of Margaret since 2001.
In the European elections of 2004 he was elected MEP for the list of United nell’Ulivo in the district north-east, receiving 176 000 preferences. Member of the Parliamentary Group of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe, was a member of the Commission on Economic and Monetary Affairs, the Temporary Committee on Policy Challenges and Budgetary Means of the enlarged Union 2007-2013; Delegation for relations with the countries of the Maghreb and the Arab Maghreb Union (including Libya).
In 2006, he was appointed Secretary of the Council of Ministers of the Prodi government, succeeding his uncle Gianni Letta and abandons the task for Europe to accept a national deputy.
The May 8, 2008 returns the position of Board Secretary Gianni Letta uncle because of the fall of the Prodi government and the subsequent election as Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi.
He is married to his second marriage to journalist Gianna Fregonara and has three children.
